Summary data for pig production in 2022 are provided according to the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy of Argentina.
Slaughter of pigs reached 7,666,012 heads, which is 2.4% more than in 2021 (7,484,270 heads). Pork production increased by 3.9% compared to the previous year, from 695,939 to 723,380 tons (t). In terms of international trade, imports amounted to 40,209 tons, 3.7% less than in 2021 (41,744 tons), while exports fell by 68.5% compared to the previous year, from 30,121 tons to 9,475 tons.
Apparent consumption reached 754,114t, representing an increase of 6.6% compared to 2021 (707,562t), while per capita consumption was estimated at 16.76 kg as of December, representing an increase year on year by 5.3%.
Overall, the performance of the industry in 2022 indicates a large potential for pig production this year, which can develop as the prospects and conditions improve for both domestic production and international trade, which have been somewhat limited in recent years.
