To get acquainted with the work of the State traffic inspectorate, participate in quests, solve exam tickets according to the rules of the road and receive a flicker as a gift - traffic police preventive actions aimed at preventing all kinds of accidents on the road have already become traditional. This time, the traffic police carried out a large-scale preventive campaign "Your move, pedestrian!" to prevent accidents involving the most vulnerable road users, which include children, pensioners and people with disabilities. Why these actions do not lose their relevance and how schoolchildren and teachers treat them - in the material of a BelTA correspondent.
“You need to cross the roadway in the place set for this, after making sure that the exit is safe,” Irina Boyarchuk, senior inspector for agitation and propaganda of the traffic police department of the Oktyabrsky police department of MINSK, once again reminds the participants of the action. The rule is trite, but invariably proves the need for a reminder. The problem of injuries to vulnerable road users on the roadway is still relevant. Every day, children and pensioners go out into the street, often becoming victims of their own inattention and carelessness. So, in January, 39 accidents occurred on the roads of the capital, which resulted in two deaths and 42 injuries of varying severity. There were 19 cases of collision with a pedestrian, as a result of which two people died, and both fatal accidents were committed through the fault of the victims themselves: they crossed the road at a prohibitory traffic light at night. The traffic police is trying to draw public attention to the problem of non-compliance with traffic rules, including through such preventive actions as "Your move, pedestrian!"The traffic police departments of the Oktyabrsky and Leninsky districts of the capital in one of the shopping centers check the knowledge of the participants in the action of the rules of safe behavior on the road, and give flickers to the most conscious and attentive. Using this attribute is the surest way to become visible on the road at night and protect yourself. "For improvident pedestrians on the road, everything ends very tragically. Confirmation of this is the death of two road users in January. If a pedestrian has a flicker, then the distance from which the driver can notice him increases from 25-40 m to 140 m, which gives a chance for the driver to take timely action to slow down,” explains Irina Boyarchuk.
The traffic police pays much attention to preventive measures. According to the senior inspector, if the State traffic inspectorate sees an increase in risks for a certain category of road users, then it takes professional measures aimed at the safety of this particular category of citizens. "In winter, we draw the attention of pedestrians to the need to use flickers, and we are also engaged in the prevention of driving while intoxicated . Closer to spring, when the motorcycle and bicycle season begins, preventive measures will be taken with the participation of cyclists and motorcyclists. We try to visually show those acute corners that we meet on our roads," said Irina Boyarchuk.
The need to remind about the rules of safe behavior on the roadway is also related to the fact that last year changes in traffic rules came into force regarding all categories of road users. Traffic police officers talk about them through professional events, publications in the media and speeches to labor collectives and students of educational institutions.
And what do those for whom these actions are held think? Sixth-grader Nikita Savchenko likes such events very much. This is not surprising: last year, Nikita, as part of the team of his school No. 224, became the winner of the Green Wave republican competition, aimed at promoting compliance with traffic rules among children and adolescents and instilling safe behavior on the road. "We always learn something new at such events. This is very important, because our lives and safety depend on it," the sixth grader showed a conscious approach to business. Other students agreed with him. For example, seventh-grader Angelina Prokhorchik and sixth-grader Masha Skameykina from secondary school No. 54 associated the importance of holding such traffic police actions with the increasing number of accidents on the road, which can occur both through the fault of the driver and the pedestrian. Schoolgirls understand the importance of wearing flickers. “If you return home at night without a flicker, drivers may not see you on the road and knock you down. With flickers, we are not afraid of this. Such events are needed in order not to forget the traffic rules and remind them to those who have forgotten,” the girls believe .
The teacher-organizer of secondary school No. 224 Elena Streltsova added that children love to share the information received at the event with their peers and thus they themselves effectively teach other children the rules of safe behavior on the road. "It is very important to remind schoolchildren about traffic rules, because this is the information that they directly use in life. This is the safety of children, and what could be more important?" - the teacher-organizer asked a rhetorical question.
Anastasia Savastyuk, a primary school teacher of secondary school No. 1, observing how schoolchildren participate in the action "Your move, pedestrian!", noted that the children prefer not a monotonous lecture or oral conversation, but precisely such a game form of obtaining very important, in fact, knowledge. "When children perform some tasks, study, play, solve quizzes or watch films, they perceive information better, especially at that age. In my opinion, from a very early age, when they are just beginning to become aware of the world, they need to be taught to rules of the road so that they know the basic rules of behavior on the roadway, for example, when to cross the road, which traffic signal, which direction to look before starting to move. All this is very important, "the young teacher shared her opinion.
Action "Your move, pedestrian!" came to an end. Schoolchildren and other participants of the action not only had fun, but also spent time usefully, reminding themselves once again of the vital rules of behavior on the road.
