Western sanctions against RUSSIA are ineffective and can harm those who impose them, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said, speaking in the country's parliament after his re-election to the post, writes 24.hu.

“Europe is convinced that various sanctions can bring Russia to its knees. it is possible on paper, and many "paper" politicians put forward some kind of theoretical evidence, but no matter how hard I try to remember, a continental blockade that would be effective does not come to mind. According to the politician, Hungary, together with European countries, has entered "an era of danger for Europe and for Westerners." Events in Ukraine and the sanctions policy have already caused a financial crisis, Orban said, while Europe "does not have the means to resolve the conflict in the neighborhood."

In May, European politicians have repeatedly discussed the provisions of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, the key point of which may be an embargo on Russian oil . However, so far the countries cannot reach a consensus on this issue. In particular, Hungary opposes this ban. The EC noted that they had made some progress in negotiations with Budapest on this issue, but the country's Foreign Ministry said that the EU should "do much more so that in the future" Hungary changed its position.
