The World HEALTH Organization has approved a CORONAVIRUS vaccine from Chinese manufacturer Sinovac Biotech for emergency use. This was announced at a briefing by the HEAD of WHO Tedros Ghebreyesus.

“Today, I am pleased to announce that Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccine has been added to the WHO emergency registry after being found to be safe, effective and of guaranteed quality,” said Ghebreyesus.

He noted that Sinovac's simple storage conditions make it suitable for countries with limited resources. “Now it is critically important to quickly deliver this life-saving device to the people who need it,” the WHO DIRECTOR emphasized.

Sinovac is the second Chinese vaccine approved by the organization. In early May, WHO was the first to allow the use of Sinopharm's drug in emergency cases. The organization previously listed vaccines from Pfizer/BionTech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and two ASTRAZENECA jointly developed with Oxford University and SOUTH KOREA.
