June 1, MINSK . Belarusian scientists plan to develop a line of dietary supplements. DIRECTOR of the Institute of MEAT and Dairy Industry of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Gordey Gusakov announced this at a press conference , BelTA has learned.

"The institute has plans to create a whole line of biologically active additives. We are currently working actively with the Academpharm enterprise. Various parameters of our substances are being worked out so that they can be defined as biologically active additives. Maybe they will be in a dry form, or maybe , and in liquid," Gordey Gusakov said.

He noted that biotechnologies are actively used in the agricultural sector. "The National Academy of Sciences conducts a full range of scientific research in the entire agro-industrial complex: from agriculture, obtaining raw materials, ending with its processing and bringing products to the end consumer. Our institute offers the food industry new types of processing agricultural products. Our institute has a biotechnology department, which has a whole production under its control. We produce starter cultures for the dairy industry," the scientist noted.

According to him, the institute has a national collection, which includes about 2.5 thousand strains of microorganisms and about 300 bacteriophages. "On the basis of this collection, selection is carried out, then genetic, microbiological, biochemical studies are carried out . We have the opportunity to receive such types of products as sour cream, cottage cheese, cheeses , yogurts. We work with almost all of our dairy enterprises, we also supply our products for EXPORT , mainly to RUSSIA. We already have three counterparties, and the share of exports is constantly growing. We see great prospects for our products in the Russian market," the director of the institute said.

In addition, many types of the institute's products have passed clinical trials. The unique medical or preventive properties declared by the developers have found their practical confirmation.

Among other things, lactic acid microorganisms have found application in agriculture in the preparation of fodder. They help keep mold from spreading. “Biopreservative for ensiling is gaining popularity, we are increasing production. This year we will have record sales,” Gordey Gusakov emphasized.

Particular attention is paid to the nutrition of Belarusian polar explorers - participants in Antarctic expeditions. For the harsh conditions of Antarctica, a special diet is being developed. "We give them our sourdough, they take powdered MILK , powdered cream and have the opportunity to produce yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, and other fermented dairy products under those conditions," the director of the institute added.
