Wholesale prices for USDA block-packed beef Thursday were $1.03 higher for Choice meats and $1.53 lower for Select. As a result, the Chc/Sel spread remained at $13.02. The US Department of Agriculture estimated the slaughter of cattle at 488,000 heads through Thursday.
