Kazakhstan's banks are complying with current restrictions and do not deserve to be included in the new package of sanctions that the EU is preparing, said Deputy Chairman of the NATIONAL BANK of the Republic Berik Sholpankulov, REUTERS reports.
The new package of sanctions will target those who help RUSSIA circumvent the measures introduced. it is planned to be approved by the end of June. 90 companies around the world will be subject to restrictions, said the HEAD of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen. According to Reuters sources, we are talking about companies including those from Kazakhstan, CHINA , Iran and Uzbekistan.
Sholpankulov was asked if there was a threat for Kazakh banks and companies to fall under the new restrictions. The deputy head of the Central Bank believes that there are no grounds for imposing secondary sanctions.
“We do not participate in the sanctions regime, but we adhere to it and will comply with the sanctions requirements,” he said. Financial institutions in Kazakhstan "do not work and have no contacts with Russian banks that are under sanctions," says the deputy chairman of the regulator.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Akylzhan Baimagambetov said that the authorities are trying in every possible way to prevent the republic from being used as a tool to circumvent sanctions. He noted that secondary sanctions against any country would create very difficult problems for the country and for the entire region. Baimagambetov noted that Kazakhstan is trying to maintain a neutral position towards Russia, but Russia is the country's largest trading partner. “Therefore, we are trying to use a balanced approach here, because the sanctions against Russia also create problems for us,” he explained.
Since April, Kazakhstan began to require the issuance of accompanying invoices for goods when trading with the EAEU countries . As reported by the FT, the measure was taken to prevent circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions and limit parallel imports. According to the publication, after the start of the conflict in Ukraine , goods worth $2 billion were imported from the EU countries to Russia under the pretext of transit to other countries, but about half of the destination was not reached.
