On June 4, Brazil's National Sanitary Inspection Agency (Anvisa) will reconsider the possibility of importing the Russian Sputnik V CORONAVIRUS vaccine into the country. This was reported in the press service of the regulator.
Management will consider requests for permission to import and distribute Covaxin and Sputnik V vaccines for emergency use.
Protests in Brazil against Bolsonaro's covid policy Politics
In April, Anvisa's board voted unanimously against importing the Russian Sputnik V vaccine into Brazil. Prior to this, the regulator stated the risks of the vaccine, citing the lack of information that guarantees its quality and safety.
In turn, the creators of Sputnik V saw political overtones in the decision of the regulator “Delays in approving Sputnik V, unfortunately, have political motives, there is nothing related to science or access to information,” the developers said.
Earlier, the regulator has already refused to import the Russian drug. However, in March, the Brazilian Ministry of HEALTH managed to reach an agreement with the RDIF on the supply of 10 million doses of the drug to the country. In addition, at the end of April, the National Technical Commission for Biosafety CTNBio of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation recognized Sputnik V as safe and approved its commercial release.
