In January, the incidence of hepatitis, syphilis, HIV and other infectious diseases increased in RUSSIA, follows from Rosstat data. Among the possible causes, experts call covid,

In Russia, in January 2023, the incidence of infectious diseases increased sharply, including socially significant diseases - HIV, tuberculosis and syphilis. This writes "Medvestnik" with reference to the data of Rosstat and reports of Rospotrebnadzor.

Thus, the incidence of newly diagnosed tuberculosis increased by 10% (2.9 thousand), HIV - by 20% (+4.4 thousand), gonococcal infection - by 19% by January 2022 (+900 cases of infection).

At the same time, half of all identified cases of HIV infection occurred in 13 regions: Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Krasnodar and Perm regions, St. Petersburg, Kemerovo, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Rostov, Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions. Rosstat does not provide exact data on the number of infected by region, Medvestnik points out.

The incidence of acute hepatitis increased sharply (+45%). Especially with hepatitis A, which fell ill for about 300 people per month (an increase of one and a half times) and hepatitis C - plus 42%, about 100 people. The incidence of hepatitis B increased by 11%. At least 2.6 thousand people fell ill with syphilis in Russia, which is 71% more than in the first month of 2022.

In addition, the incidence of measles increased during the month - 161 new cases in January, while in January 2022 only four cases of measles were detected. The incidence of whooping cough (+400 cases, an increase of 4.6 times) and parotitis (about 100 cases of parotitis per month, an increase of 2.9 times) has increased.

The increase in the incidence of syphilis and hepatitis may be due to the fact that the requirements for doctors related to reporting and the requirements to submit data on such patients on time have become more stringent, says Georgy Vikulov, DIRECTOR of the National Research Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Viral Infections, HEAD of the Herpes Center of the Moscow State University Research and Education Center.

Also, according to him, the CORONAVIRUS can affect it. The expert said that based on autopsy data in infectious diseases hospitals, we can talk about the prevalence of reactivated forms of various herpes virus infections in patients who have had covid-19 . “This can cause the growth of some genital diseases,” he told Medvestnik. Also, according to him, on the example of the increase in the incidence of measles, one can see the impact of the lockdown on the delay in vaccinating children.

Vikulov also admits that the Russian special operation in Ukraine influenced the increase in the incidence of certain diseases.

“In military operations, the frequency of intestinal infections increases, and we have a large number of hospitalized participants in SWO who just might have hepatitis A,” Vikulov said, explaining that outbreaks of infection often occur during natural disasters and military operations.
