The Belgian government has decided to suspend the use  of Johnson & Johnson's covid-19 vaccine for people under 41, REUTERS reported.

This happened after a woman who received a dose of the drug died from serious side effects, the agency writes. She was less than 40 years old and died on May 21 after being hospitalized with thrombosis and a drop in her blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia).

The vaccine will only be administered to people over 41 until Belgium receives more detailed data on the benefits and risks of using this drug from the European Medical Agency (EMA).

The Brussels Times writes that the decision by the authorities could significantly slow down the pace of vaccination in Belgium, as people under 41 will be forced to be vaccinated with vaccines that require two injections (the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson requires a single injection).
