This is reported by the agricultural portal: “In Spain, a presentation of the Aproavi project for the production of biogas and fertilizers from poultry waste was recently held, the participants of which (Adegal (consulting company), EnergyLab Technology Center, MEAT Technology Center (CTC) and Silvares Group S. Coop Gallega (network agricultural cooperatives)) are exploring opportunities and business models, respectively, for converting bird droppings and other organic agricultural residues into renewable energy and fertilizers, which should bring tangible benefits to the industry and society.
The project is being implemented from July 1, 2022 to October 1, 2024, the goal is to increase the competitiveness of national poultry farms by processing waste into renewable energy sources (biogas and pyrolysis gas) and fertilizers based on digestate and biochar.
To achieve this goal, the following specific objectives are set, including the characterization of the main organic waste generated by poultry enterprises in the region of Limia and Lower Limia (part of the province of Ourense in the Autonomous Community of Galicia), as well as to maximize the production of biogas from the anaerobic digestion of poultry manure, together with others with abundant agricultural waste in the study area .
The network of agricultural cooperatives Silvares Group S. Coop Gallega is the initiator of the creation of new energy self-sufficient communities, develops guidelines for launching energy communities in agri-food cooperatives when the production of electricity or heat comes from renewable sources. Thus, the diversification of agricultural production is achieved with direct and indirect benefits, including energy supplies for municipal networks.
With regard to fertilizers, it is planned to establish the effect of pyrolysis temperature on the formation of biochar and on its basic properties. The obtained fertilizers from digestate and biochar will be tested on two crops – wheat and potatoes.”
