In April, Brazilian pork exports increased by 35.1% compared to the same month last year and reached a total volume of 98,300 tons worth $232.3 million (+40.6%), according to data released by the Brazilian Association of Animal Breeders ( ABPA). EXPORT growth was driven by increased demand from Asia, Africa and South America.
More than half of the volumes exported in April were sent to mainland CHINA (51,500 tons), up 50.5% from last year. The figure does not take into account pork exports to Hong Kong - 14,600 tons (+ 4.9%). “In addition to strong sales to the Chinese market, we are seeing growth in exports to other regions of the globe, including markets neighboring Brazil,” ABPA President Ricardo Santin said in a note on the growth in shipments to such countries. as Chile (+130.9%) and Argentina (+84.3%).
In the first four months of this year, Brazilian pork exports grew by 25.29% compared to the same period last year and reached 351,800 tons, worth $826.4 million (+27.1%). According to Mr. Santin, the strong performance in foreign markets is helping producers in Brazil "cut losses caused by strong pressure from domestic production costs."
