The organizers of the shift are the Ural State Agrarian University and the Golden Section Fund for Supporting Talented Children and Youth.
From April 16 to April 29, 30 schoolchildren aged 14-17 from Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region will not only have a rest in the Tavatuy country center, but will also take part in an extensive educational program.
The course "Food Biotechnology" is aimed at children who are interested in chemical and biological sciences, modern methods and techniques of biotechnology, who are participants in chemistry or biology olympiads, as well as various competitions of design works in the natural sciences.
In an interactive format, children will learn a lot about the physiology of human nutrition, the use of microorganisms in the food industry, functional foods, genetically modified organisms and much more. They will get acquainted with the technology of preparing various food products (bread, kefir, yogurt, cheese, kvass), learn to determine the quality of food products, as well as the biological, energy and nutritional values of raw materials, analyze and summarize experimental data, and work with literature.
Classes will be conducted by teachers of the Department of Biotechnology and Foodstuffs of the Ural State Agrarian University - O.S. Chechenikhina, A.V. Stepanov, Ya.S. Pavlova, O.V. Zinina.
“Currently, the achievements of food biotechnology are of great interest among a wide range of people. The main objective of the course is to form a culture of a healthy and safe lifestyle in children, to create a positive and responsible attitude to food. The educational program is designed for 60 academic hours, most of which are devoted to practical exercises. Together we will understand the basics of human nutritional physiology, the classification of food and non-food substances, biotechnological methods and the principles of food production. The objectives of the program correspond to the conditions of the National Project "Education". At the end of the course, the guys will be able to broaden their horizons, as well as acquire skills that allow them to apply the acquired knowledge when creating projects in biology, chemistry and related fields”,
A distinctive feature of the course will be the presentation of the material - preference is given to games, quests, master classes and cognitive quizzes. As a final certification, all participants in the Food Biotechnology course will come up with and defend their own creative project.
it is worth noting that before that, USAU teachers held several educational intensive courses on ecology for schoolchildren. In the Tavatuy EC, the children learned a lot about the ecology of animals, plants, water bodies, learned how to conduct field research to study the diversity of flora and fauna, draw up passports for the area and water bodies, determine the physical and chemical parameters of water, anthropogenic climate change, apply GIS technologies for creating maps and much more.
