The Investigative Committee (IC) opened a criminal case because of the fire at the Sakhalin GRES-2. This is stated on the website of the department.

The case was opened under Part 1 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code (negligence). The maximum penalty under this article is arrest for three months.

Firefighters put out the fire at Sakhalinskaya GRES-2 Society

The fire at GRES-2 occurred on the night of April 30. The fire occurred in the turbine room due to the shutdown of the second unit with a load of 60 MW. After turning off the turbogenerator and igniting, the fire extinguishing system worked at the station.

According to Sakhalinenergo and RusHydro, the incident did not affect the energy supply in any way. No one was injured as a result of the fire. 30 employees of the enterprise evacuated independently. The fire was later extinguished.
