Bill 6248 to amend certain food laws is before BP

Bill No. 6248 “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding Food Products and Other Sanitary Measures” has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Bill No. 6248 proposes to introduce the concept of "imitation food product". There will be special labeling requirements for such products and they will have to be sold on separate racks with the inscription: “Imitation products. Contain substitutes for the components of MILK, fish, MEAT. Moreover, the labels of such products should not contain images of milk, dairy products, meat, meat products, fish, chocolate, as well as animals (cows, sheep, goats, buffaloes, mares, pigs, calves, poultry).

The law also defines what a “vegan food product”, “vegetarian food product” is. The term "artisan food product" was introduced - it is a product that is produced only at one facility according to its own original recipe in a volume of not more than 500 kg or liters per week.

The state also plans to clean up the registration of food additives, enzymes and flavors.

It also provides for traceability of the origin of raw materials and components.

In addition, it is proposed to introduce a rating of catering and retail establishments. Those with the most complaints will be blacklisted.

For incorrect labeling of products, if this does not pose a threat to life and HEALTH, a fine is provided for companies - UAH 120,000, for private entrepreneurs - UAH 90,000.

For the purchase and use of products manufactured at facilities that have not passed state registration, they can be fined - for companies UAH 180 thousand, and for private entrepreneurs - UAH 120 thousand.

The bill introduces punishment for food fraud - “food fraud is a deliberate act carried out for the purpose of obtaining economic benefits and having one or more of the following signs: misleads the consumer and violates the legislation on safety and certain indicators of food quality by changing the characteristics of a food product and / or misuse of the mark for goods and services, and / or copying the form, packaging, external design and / or direct reproduction of the food product of another market operator with the unauthorized use of its name.

For food fraud, companies will be fined UAH 300,000, and private enterprises UAH 180,000.
