Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksei Gordeyev suggests that the use of seized products, if they are suitable for food, should be considered for their intended purpose instead of destroying them.
"I think
it's wrong to destroy foodstuffs. It's another matter to seize them and think about how to use them as food for their intended purpose, making appropriate analyses. For the future, this needs to be discussed," Gordeyev told reporters on Friday, commenting on the initiative of Rospotrebnadzor to introduce a legal ban on the destruction of usable foodstuffs.
The initiative of Rospotrebnadzor became known in June 2019. It was supported by the Presidential Council on Civil Society and Human Rights, which recommended the government to ban the destruction of food products and remove barriers to the transfer of products with expiring validity for charitable purposes.
In the summer of 2014,
RUSSIA imposed an import ban on a number of food products from the
usa, Norway, Australia,
CANADA and EU countries in response to anti-Russian sanctions imposed due to the situation in Ukraine. Since 2015, products subject to restrictive measures have been destroyed.
