law The President signed the baby food law

The President of Ukraine signed law No. 4554 on baby food, which provides for bringing Ukrainian legislation in the field of production, circulation and advertising of baby food in line with the requirements of EU legislation.

The document limits the advertising of baby food, the publication of which after the entry into force of the bill will be allowed only in specialized publications with scientific justification. it also establishes a ban on the labeling of formulas for feeding children with inscriptions on the content of gluten in them, since its use in such foods is prohibited and these labels can mislead consumers.

For violation of these restrictions for advertisers and manufacturers, the bill provides for a fine in the amount of 50-100 tax-free minimum incomes of citizens (UAH 300-600 thousand), while previously it was UAH 1,700-5,100.

Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Basic Principles and Requirements for Safety and Quality of Food Products" relate to:

the terms by which baby food products are classified according to their assigned composition, special requirements for baby food, determining the powers of the central executive body that forms and ensures the implementation of state policy in the field of HEALTH care regarding the approval of certain indicators of food quality, a number of requirements for specific types of food products, intended for baby food for special medical purposes and weight control, the procedure for sending a notification to the competent authority of the intention to put into circulation or import into the customs territory of Ukraine of these food products to determine the powers of the central executive authority,forming and ensuring the implementation of state policy in the field of safety and individual indicators of food quality by approving individual indicators of food quality.
