“Both the HEAD of our government and the head of the Syrian Arab Republic clearly noted that the most urgent task for us now is the most efficient and wide-ranging development of trade and economic relations. We see niches that correspond to our capabilities. technical assistance to restore the Syrian economy and infrastructure after a decade of destructive war," Yury Sluka said.

According to him, the Belarusian side has something to offer its Syrian friends. "The parties agreed to determine as quickly as possible specific mechanisms for the implementation of common ideas aimed at developing cooperation," the ambassador noted. , as well as ways to implement cooperation projects".

The agenda also includes issues of humanitarian, scientific and technical cooperation. "In general, the widest range. it is pleasant to note that our Syrian partners are sincerely interested in our knowledge, skills, technologies. We really appreciate it," the diplomat stressed.

Trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Syria is developing against the backdrop of difficult conditions of economic sanctions against Syria, the destruction of transport and social infrastructure, an acute shortage of financial resources from the Syrian government and a decrease in the purchasing power of the country's population. In 2021, the trade turnover between Belarus and Syria amounted to $8.2 million (an increase of 41.3% compared to 2020), exports - $7.6 million (an increase of 47.9%), imports - $0.6 million (an increase of 6. 1%).
