April 3,
MINSK . The most effective protection against tick suction is self- and mutual inspection. This was reported by entomologist of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public
HEALTH Svetlana Yashkova at the “Tick Activity Season: Prevention and
Treatment of Tick-Borne Infections in People and Pets” at the BELTA press center.
The rules for protecting against tick-borne infections when visiting forests and park areas are traditional, the entomologist noted. When staying in the forest for a long time, you should wear special or regular clothing that covers all open areas of the body and always a hat.
it is recommended to use deterrents - repellents or acaricidal-repellent agents. At the same time, Svetlana Yashkova recommended choosing acaricidal-repellent agents for treating clothes. She explained this by saying that such products not only repel ticks, but also kill on contact.
As for repellents, the entomologist noted that their effectiveness is quite high. According to the instructions, it reaches 96-98%. However, such products must be applied every two hours. In addition, it is important to consider that when it rains, they are washed off from clothing and also reduce efficiency.
The entomologist emphasized that the most effective protection is considered to be self- and mutual examinations every hour of stay in forests and park areas. As for summer cottages where ticks are found, especially in the spring, it is recommended, in addition to landscaping the area, to carry out acaricidal treatments. This is done by preventive disinfection centers. Svetlana Yashkova does not recommend treating the areas yourself, as these products are quite toxic and can lead to poisoning if the rules are not followed.
Additionally, it is important to be aware of the risks of infection from consuming raw goat
MILK. It is recommended to eat only boiled goat's
milk . Two to three minutes of boiling disinfect the milk - the tick-borne encephalitis
virus dies.
