March 24, Gomel. Specialists of the Gomel regional inspectorate of the Gosstandart have checked imported "dairy products" sold in the region, BelTA learned from the regional inspectorate of the Gosstandart.
Imported products that look like dairy products (cottage cheese, sour cream, butter), with the names "Milk-vegetable curd product", "Milk-vegetable sour cream product", "Vegetable-fat spread" are sold at markets in pavilions along with dairy products. "The cost of such imports, as a rule, is several times lower than the dairy products of domestic producers," the inspectorate noted.
According to experts, buyers, looking at the appearance and name, believe that they are purchasing dairy products with the addition of vegetable fats. However, the technical regulation of the Customs Union "On the safety of MILK and dairy products" does not provide for the term "milk-vegetable product". "And the production of a "milk-containing product" implies the presence of a milk component with the possibility of replacing milk fat in an amount of not more than 50%. That is, the fat contained in the product may consist of 50% of milk fat and 50% of its substitute of vegetable origin" , - explained in the inspection.
However, the composition of the raw materials that the manufacturer uses in the production of these products and as stated in the labeling says: there is no milk fat at all. As a rule, such a product consists of skimmed milk powder, a mixture of protein-vegetable fibers, a mixture of vegetable oils, thickeners, stabilizers and cream flavors. "In fact, these products have nothing to do with dairy products and eating them will not bring the expected benefits," the regional inspection of the State Standard concluded.
