March 23, Moscow. The board of the Eurasian Economic Commission today at a meeting agreed on an extension of the period for state regulation of prices for socially significant goods for Belarus. Iya Malkina, Assistant to the Chairman of the EEC Board, announced this on her FACEBOOK page, BelTA informs.
"For 17 commodity items, the period is extended until June 29 from April 1, i.e. for 90 days. This includes fresh-frozen fish, MEAT, MILK and dairy products, SUGAR, buckwheat and other goods. The entire list is spelled out in the decree of the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and trade of Belarus dated December 28, 2020 No. 83. The period for canned fish has also been extended for 41 days - from May 20 to June 29 inclusive," wrote Iya Malkina.
The Treaty on the EAEU provides that states may introduce price regulation for certain types of goods in exceptional cases.
"According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, world food prices in January 2021 increased by 8.8% compared to January 2020. This also affected goods related to critical imports for Belarus. The country also faced a negative supply situation food in connection with the epidemiological situation," the Assistant to the Chairman of the EEC Board explained.
"I note that the introduction of temporary measures did not create a barrier to entry into the Belarusian market for other EAEU countries," Iya Malkina added.
