February 10, MINSK. Belarus produces enough fruits and vegetables to meet the needs of the domestic market. However, from time to time there are questions with retail chains regarding the price for the products offered. This was stated to journalists by Igor Brylo, Minister of Agriculture and Food, BelTA has learned.

According to him, farmers are successfully coping with the task of producing such a volume of products that will be sufficient for the country. As for the production of MEAT, MILK, meat, dairy, bakery products, it is many times more than the needs of the population. The only exceptions are certain commodity items, for example, fruits, vegetables.

"The fact is that the trade wants to buy cheaper, and the manufacturer wants to sell it at a higher price. It is wrong to emphasize that there are no agricultural products (in trade facilities - approx. BelTA). It is enough. But to build a mechanism for interaction between our farmers, producers and trade networks in terms of the price factor - this is another task. It is necessary that it be beneficial to everyone," the minister said.

He stressed that there are sufficient stocks of fruits and vegetables in the stabilization funds, there are no prerequisites for a shortage. For example, the country has produced about 880 thousand tons of potatoes, which significantly exceeds domestic needs. Half of this volume is exported to RUSSIA. About 48 thousand tons of potatoes are placed in the stabilization fund. The same with vegetables. “There are questions about some fruits. Although the business circles that were engaged in this area have reoriented to other markets (due to the introduction of restrictions on supplies from certain countries in response to sanctions . - Note by BelTA). I don’t think that the Belarusian consumer will experience there is some kind of shortage in goods. We will make every effort and together with MART we will make sure that we have everything on the shelves," Igor Brylo assured.
