Yaroslavl farmers are advised to switch to alternative types of animal husbandry due to the situation with ASF

On the territory of the Yaroslavl region, restrictive measures continue to be in place in connection with the spread of African swine fever. The number of foci of ASF infection has reached 27 - the genetic material of the virus was detected in 13 municipal districts of the region.

By decree of the governor of the region Dmitry Mironov, a quarantine was established. Specialists of the State Veterinary Service are taking measures to eliminate foci of African swine fever and prevent the spread of the pathogen.

- Unfortunately, ASF is now spreading not only in the Yaroslavl region. Thus, foci were registered in farms and private households in the Tver, Tula, Kostroma, Smolensk regions, in the Republic of Mari El, and for the first time in 40 years, cases of African swine fever were recorded in the Dominican Republic. Owners of small farms often neglect safety rules, which leads to the further spread of ASF, - said Alexander Chavgun, DIRECTOR of the regional veterinary department.

When the diagnosis of "African swine fever" is established, quarantine is imposed on the farm (epizootic focus). According to its terms, all pigs and pig products are destroyed in the focus of infection, and all pigs are withdrawn within a radius of up to 20 km from the outbreak (threatened zone).

African swine fever virus, including those found in products, does not pose a risk to human HEALTH, but it is deadly to domestic pigs and wild boars.

However, a person can also become a carrier of ASF: he can transmit the African swine fever virus to animals through shoes, clothes or food.

In this regard, the Government of the region recommended that the population, if possible, limit trips to the forest, where ASF can be spread among wild boars. And if you have been in the forest, then after visiting it is necessary to treat clothes and shoes with special disinfectants.

Today, the departments of veterinary medicine, agro-industrial complex and the consumer market of the region offer pig farms to switch to alternative types of animal husbandry - goose breeding, sheep breeding, goat breeding and others.

In a number of districts of the region - Lyubimsky, Borisoglebsky, Rybinsk, Tutaevsky, Gavrilov-Yamsky, Pervomaisky, Uglichsky, as well as the Kostroma region, farms engaged in pig breeding today can purchase chickens, geese, ducks, guinea fowls, sheep, goats at a bargain price.

The situation associated with the emergence of ASF foci is under the control of the Government of the Yaroslavl Region and the Government of the Russian Federation.
