The temporary suspension was in force since September 19, following the reporting of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (IAPP, H5N1 virus ) in the state.

At the time of the suspension, the Japanese ministry said the measure was aimed at "preventing the virus from infecting live birds raised in the country and for food hygiene reasons."
Earlier, on October 20, Japan had already authorized the resumption of imports of chicken MEAT and eggs from Mato Grosso do Sul

Japan is the second largest consumer of Brazilian poultry products.
