ROSSELKHOZNADZOR announced a ban on the import of livestock products from the European Union from January 20, 2025, citing the threat of foot-and-mouth disease, which was recorded on a farm in Brandenburg. The outbreak of the disease triggered the introduction of quarantine measures and restrictions on the movement of livestock products within the EU .

Experts emphasize that despite the risks associated with the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, there has been a significant decline in the import of breeding cattle from Europe to RUSSIA in recent years. This raises hopes for active EXPORT of Russian products to new markets, as many Central Asian countries are looking for ways to replace the declining supplies from Germany and other European countries.

At the same time, Rosselkhoznadzor works only with Hungary on animal import issues, as it is the only EU country willing to provide veterinary guarantees for deliveries to Russia. The question remains open as to how long the restrictions will last and whether they can be relaxed in the future. Experts are confident that this crisis on the European market will allow Russia to strengthen its position in the international arena.
