The need to reconsider the approach to preventing outbreaks at the international exhibition of feed, veterinary medicine and technologies for livestock farming, pig farming, poultry farming and feed production AGROS 2024 , which ends today at the Crocus Expo complex in Moscow, was stated by the HEAD of the ASF reference laboratory of the All-Russian Research Institute of Animal HEALTH and Animal Welfare, Alexey Igolkin.

In epizootically free territories, the rules approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation require laboratory tests for the ASF virus twice a year. This is not enough to completely eliminate its circulation, says Igolkin. He believes that it is necessary to examine the livestock and take samples in each pig farm at least twice a month. With this frequency, it is possible to detect the infection at an early stage and prevent its spread.

The representativeness of the result is ensured not by random sampling studies , but by a targeted approach focused on identifying risk groups, the speaker noted.
