The National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”, together with the non-state development institute “Innopraktika”, created a database of cattle genetic data, which will allow us to refuse to import semen from abroad. This was told by the president of the center Mikhail Kovalchuk.
He clarified that over the past few months, scientists, together with colleagues from Innopraktika, have digitized the results of genotyping of 19,000 heads of cattle raised in the Krasnodar Territory, and intend to carry out similar work in the Stavropol Territory.
“In a short time, we have created a base for our own breeding of cattle in order to abandon the semen that we import here today,” Kovalchuk said, adding that livestock genotyping data will be integrated into the National Genetic Information Database, the prototype of which was created by the institute in accordance with with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation. “We will do the same not only in animal husbandry, but also in seed production,” he added.
As the Center for Agroanalytics wrote earlier, the NRC Kurchatov Institute became the lead scientific organization of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Agriculture for 2017-2030.
