Pig breeding is one of the most dynamically developing sub-sectors of agriculture in the Republic of Mordovia
Over the past 10 years, the number of pigs in the region has more than doubled. As of April 1, on the territory of the republic there are 13 enterprises engaged in keeping and breeding pigs, which contain 654.4 thousand heads of pigs, which is 96.5% of the total livestock. All pig breeding enterprises have a high level of biological protection (IV and III compartments).
Thanks to the successful implementation of investment projects in pig breeding, the production of pigs for slaughter in 2021 will amount to at least 130 thousand tons, with an increase of 30%.
This year, two modern pig-breeding complexes with a production capacity of 4,800 sows each are put into operation.
A high level of organization of production at production sites allows you to get more than 3 thousand kg. per year of pigs for slaughter per sow at a feed conversion of 2.9. Important in the economic component has its own production of feed for pig breeding. Enterprises are fully provided with the main components of feed of their own production.
The main share of the grown livestock is processed by processing enterprises, which allows creating additional jobs and added value.
In the near future, further expansion of production capacities for breeding, raising and processing pigs is planned.
As noted in the Ministry of Agriculture of RUSSIA, the pig breeding sub-sector is the main driver of MEAT production growth in the country. In recent years, the country has consistently exceeded the target indicator of self-sufficiency in these products, which allows the surplus to be sent abroad and annually increase EXPORT volumes.
In 2020, pig production in live weight increased by 8.9% to 5.5 million tonnes. For the first three months of this year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, this figure amounted to 1.3 million tons (+0.5%), while agricultural enterprises provided the main increase.
