USA: Cattle market overview for the 7th week of 2022

Cattle slaughter has stabilized at 122,000 heads. A week ago, it was reported about the slaughter of cattle at the level of 123 thousand heads.

The USDA Monthly Livestock Report showed that the total number of cattle and calves as of January 1, 2022 was estimated at 91.9 million heads, down 2% from a year ago. The forecast for commercial beef production in 2022 was raised 210 million pounds from last month to 27.375 billion pounds due to higher expected slaughter of cattle and heavier carcass weights.

 The beef EXPORT forecast for 2022 was unchanged from last month at 3.270 billion pounds. So far in the reporting week, beef export sales have reached 23,000 tons, up 18 percent from the previous week and 38 percent from the previous 4-week average. Growth occurred mainly due to deliveries to the market of SOUTH KOREA (10,100 tons), Japan (7,200 tons), CANADA (1,600 tons), Mexico (1,200 tons) and CHINA (600 tons).
