The cost of Choice MEAT in the US market increased by $5.24 in a week, the price of Select beef decreased by $2.01. Choice/Select price leverage dropped to $14.77.
Livestock prices rose substantially last week, closing just below $130 on Friday. This was $3.06 per centner more than the previous Friday. Cattle buyers seem to be buying up decent volumes in the past few weeks. From October to the first week of November, 176,329 HEAD of cattle were sold, which is 15% less than last year, but 37% more than in 2019.
FOB live heifer sales are down 25% year-over-year and less than 1% since 2019. Over the past five weeks, on average, about 65,000 bulls and heifers per week have participated in contractual auctions. This is a significant increase from the previous month. Cattle prices rose last week and interest in both the meat and cattle markets is expected to continue this week.
