USA: Cattle market review for 41 weeks from October 16, 2023
According to the US Department of Agriculture , EXPORT sales for the week ending October 5 amounted to 9 thousand tons of beef. This was a 4 week low. During the week, shipments amounted to 15.6 thousand tons, bringing total exports for the season to 630.8 thousand tons.
Boxed beef prices as of Friday were $300.80 for Choice and $275.49 for Select . This represents a decrease of 39 cents and an increase of 47 cents for the week, respectively. The USDA reported beef production for the week was 510 million pounds, down 1.8% for the week and down 7.3% for the year. Slaughter also fell by 1.8% for the week from 617 thousand HEAD to Saturday. Total year-to-date slaughter is estimated at 25.485 million head, and beef production at 20.874 billion pounds, down 4.5% and 5.2%, respectively, from last year.
