USA: Cattle market overview for the 25th week of 2023

August feedstock contracts on the CME rose 3.275 cents to 233.95 cents a pound, above the 40-day moving average. The contract closed at a session high of 235.15 cents after it ran into resistance as it approached its 30-day moving average. Underlying CME August livestock fell 0.375 cents to 170.775 cents a pound, falling below its 20-day moving average.

The USDA said on Friday morning that beef EXPORT sales for the week ended June 15 were 13,300 metric tons, up slightly from the 13,000 metric tons reported a week earlier.

After the close of trading , the US Department of Agriculture reported that the number of fattening cattle as of June 1 was 97.0% compared to last year. Analysts had expected 96.8%. The number of cattle fed during May was 105.0% of the total for May 2022. This is more or less in line with market forecasts - 101.7%.
