USA: Cattle market overview for 21 weeks 2023

Livestock futures rose 5 to 57 cents on the day, pushing June futures up $1.62 for the week. The USDA has listed wholesale prices for livestock at $171 in the South, $180-$182 in the North, and $285 for beef . Fattener contracts fell 77 to $1.12 in futures contracts for the coming month. The CME Finisher Index stood at $209.86 on May 25, up $1.72.

The USDA Wholesale Boxed Beef Report showed higher prices on Friday, with Choice beef trading $3.99 higher and Select MEAT up 38 cents. As a result, the Chc/Sel spread remained at $19.01. The USDA estimated the weekly slaughter of 625,000 cattle through Saturday. This is down from 642,000 last week and 641,000 compared to the same week last year.
