Exports increased 10% year-on-year to 232,488 tonnes valued at US $1.35 billion , up 13% and the highest since 2009.
While the fast start to the year was partly due to a strong peso, supplies held up well in the second half of the year, even as the peso weakened by about 20% against the DOLLAR.
Brazil became Mexico's second-largest supplier of beef (ahead of CANADA and Nicaragua) with shipments of 46,000 tons, taking advantage of duty-free access, as noted in the pork section.
This further illustrates the critical importance of maintaining duty-free access for U.S. beef in Mexico and other markets covered by trade agreements.
