At the end of November 2021, the Rostov region became the leader in terms of the increase in the number of poultry. Relative to the same indicator of the previous year, the number of birds increased by 59%. it increased from 4142.9 thousand heads to 6596.2 thousand heads.
Also, the Rostov region took the second place in terms of the growth rate of poultry production for slaughter, slightly yielding to the Ulyanovsk region. Production for slaughter increased from 1.9 thousand tons to 6.8 thousand tons. more than 3.5 times.
Such dynamics became possible due to the resumption of work of two poultry farms in 2021 - Taganrog and Aksai. At the end of 2020, these businesses were closed. There was an outbreak of bird flu at the Taganrog poultry farm, which caused the destruction of 840,000 birds. At another poultry farm, production was stopped due to a change in the technological scheme for keeping and cross-country poultry. The suspension of the activities of poultry farms led to changes in the price of chicken eggs in the region, as they accounted for 45% of egg production in the Rostov region.
According to the government of the Don region, in March, young animals were planted at poultry farms. Both poultry farms are expected to reach full capacity in 2022. But already now they are making a significant contribution to the production of poultry MEAT and eggs in the Rostov region.
The Rostov region ranks second in poultry production in the Southern Federal District, behind the leadership of the Krasnodar Territory. In 2021, enterprises producing poultry faced a lot of difficulties, among which the incidence of avian influenza is in the first place. Because of him, in February 2021, a large number of birds were destroyed. The basis for solving this problem was the vaccination of birds against bird flu. But the solution to one problem gave rise to another - due to the vaccination of poultry, producers will have to stop supplying poultry meat abroad, because. in order to EXPORT poultry, it is necessary to fulfill a number of international obligations, one of which is a ban on the sale of vaccinated products.
At the same time, Russian experts argue that vaccination of poultry does not have a harmful effect either on humans or on the quality of the product.
Currently, mass vaccination against bird flu is prohibited. The ban is due, on the one hand, to the economic component - vaccination is costly and unprofitable, and on the other hand, it leads to the fact that vaccinated individuals often get sick asymptomatically, and the strain obtained from the vaccine is often difficult to distinguish from that obtained in the field, so bird disease and its causes will be difficult to control.
Thus, poultry production in the Rostov region is associated with a number of difficulties, but the indicators of growth in livestock and poultry production indicate that agricultural enterprises are working efficiently and provide the region with products of their own production.
