Food inflation in RUSSIA in January 2021 amounted to 8.2% in annual terms, while in the European Union (EU) consumer food prices rose by 1.1%, according to the materials of Rosstat.

According to Rosstat, in general, the consumer price index increased in Russia in January by 5.2% in annual terms and by 0.7% in monthly terms, in the EU - by 1.2% in annual terms and by 0.3% - in monthly.

it is noted that in January 2021, among the countries under consideration, the largest increase in consumer prices compared to the previous month was noted in Armenia (2.2%), Turkey (1.7%), Germany (1.4%), compared with January of the previous year - in Turkey (15%), Kyrgyzstan (10.1%) and Belarus (7.7%).

In January, consumer food prices increased in most countries of the European Union. Compared with the previous month, the most significant increase in prices among EU countries for products was recorded in the Czech Republic (3%), Germany (2.6%), Poland (2%), the agency notes. “Compared to the previous month, in January 2021, consumer prices for vegetables increased most noticeably in the EU; oils and fats; fish and seafood," Rosstat says.

It is noted that in Russia the growth in prices for vegetables amounted to 6.3% in monthly terms, on average in the EU - 3.7%. Vegetables most of all rose in price in the Czech Republic (by 10.3%), Germany, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland (by 5.5-7.7%); oils and fats - in Denmark (by 12.3%), Estonia, Czech Republic, Lithuania (by 3.1-4.4%).

In Russia, the increase in prices for fish and seafood amounted to 0.8% in monthly terms, in the EU - by 1.3%. Prices for fish and seafood increased most significantly in the Czech Republic (by 7.2%), Finland and Estonia (by 3.5%).

The government considers it "speculation" to include Russia in the number of "hot spots" for rising food prices

Prices for fruits increased in Russia by 2.3% (on average for the EU prices for fruits did not change), bakery products and cereals, as well as for MEAT and meat products - by 0.6% (in the EU - by 0.3% and 0.4% respectively). Dairy products, cheeses and eggs went up in Russia by 0.3% (in EU countries - by an average of 0.5%); oils and fats - by 0.2% (in the EU - by 1.6%); SUGAR, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets - by 0.1% (in the countries of the European Union - an average of 0.7%).
