An investigation by ITV, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism and The Guardian found that Asda, Iceland and Lidl are receiving frozen chicken products from a Polish poultry supplier linked to a past salmonella outbreak .

SuperDrob was found to source its chicken from farms that use fluoroquinolone antibiotics , which are also used to treat human salmonella infections. The company confirmed to investigators that antibiotics were used, but denied abuse and said it was also prohibited for its suppliers.

Waste samples collected from a number of Polish poultry farms supplying SuperDrob have been tested and fluoroquinolone-resistant E. coli have been found.

SuperDrob has been linked to the 2020 UK and European Salmonella outbreak. UK Chief Veterinarian Christine Middlemiss called for action in a December 2020 letter to her Polish counterpart. In April 2021, officials from Poland and the UK met virtually to discuss the safety of poultry MEAT.
