In the Chelyabinsk region, there is a decline in animal husbandry. The number of pig farms in 2022 decreased by 7.3%, poultry MEAT producers — by 6.5%. According to the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural complexes reduce production volumes due to market glut.

“Agricultural companies are changing the technological regime, for example, reducing the bird stocking density and time gaps between the settlement of poultry houses, spending more time on planned sanitation. And as a result, they are trying to pay attention to the issues of marketing products and providing the South Urals with a variety of meat products, ”the ministry said.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the region, the number of livestock decreased most of all in the personal farmsteads of the South Urals — by 7 thousand individuals in 2022. People began to keep fewer cows and sheep, because feed prices have risen sharply. Prices soared due to the drought of the previous three years and the rising cost of concentrated feed.

The enterprises tried to keep the herd in order to increase the number of animals when the conditions are favorable. Back in 2021, additional subsidies were allocated to support livestock, which made it possible to avoid large losses.

“In order not only to have a stable livestock, but also to increase self-sufficiency in dairy products, support has been introduced in the region for the construction of new farms and their equipment with milking parlors. More than 250 million rubles are allocated annually for these purposes,” the regional Ministry of Agriculture added.

At the same time, the Chelyabinsk region ranks first in the Urals Federal District in the production of meat and meat products. The output of meat products in relation to the recommended consumption rate per capita is 306%, that is, the Chelyabinsk region is a surplus region for meat production. Agricultural producers and processors not only meet the needs of South Ural residents in meat products, but also supply a significant part - at least 45% of the produced volume - to other regions of RUSSIA.

In the production of meat and meat products, a significant share is occupied by poultry farms and pig farms. Beef production loses out to these two sub-sectors, as it has a longer cycle and is less attractive in terms of investment. Most of the cattle population in the region is dairy.

A few more numbers. For the production of MILK, cottage cheese, cheeses and sour cream, the Chelyabinsk region ranks third in the Ural Federal District. But for butter - on the second, as well as for fermented milk products.
