“In general, fires in rural areas annually cause material damage at the level of about 6.2 billion rubles, including the loss of agricultural machinery, buildings and structures, supplies,” this is an expert assessment based on data from the Ministry of EmergenciesRUSSIA, which registered about 160,000 such fires last year, of which almost 91,000 are fires in the open, the President of the NSA pointed out. “Therefore, fire risk insurance for agricultural enterprises should be comprehensive, covering livestock, equipment, and real estate.”

“The largest case of fire damage to the agro-industrial complex in modern Russia can be considered the catastrophic situation in the Trans-Baikal Territory in 2019, when the spread of fire in the dry steppe led to the death of almost 2 thousand heads of cattle, 15 thousand sheep, more than 700 horses , and as well as other animal species, the loss of 55 units of agricultural machinery, stocks of hay and grain. This damage, which reached almost 882 million rubles, was not insured then. In 2022, livestock breedersAlmost a quarter of the small cattle population was insured with state support in Transbaikalia,” said Korney Bizhdov.

According to information reported on May 3 at a meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, almost 40,000 fires have been registered in open areas since the beginning of this year. Further deterioration of the fire hazard situation is expected in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Primorsky Krai, Amur Region, Jewish Autonomous Region, most regions of Siberia and the Urals, as well as in the Volga region - on the territory of the Republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and Udmurtia, Perm Territory, Samara and Orenburg regions ; in the south - in the Republic of Kalmykia, Astrakhan and Volgograd regions.


According to the Federal Law N 260-F3 "On State Support in the Sphere of Agricultural Insurance", in Russia, within the framework of a centralized system, state support is provided for insurance of risks of crop production, livestock breeding and commercial aquaculture. Only insurance companies that are members of a single all-Russian association, the National Union of Agricultural Insurers, have the right to conclude insurance contracts with state support. Insurance is carried out on the basis of uniform standard rules for each insurance program provided for in the agricultural insurance system .
