it is explained that the government has decided to close part of Finland's eastern border. The border crossings of Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Niirala have been closed since November 18, 2023. The decision is valid until February 18, 2024.

“The import of live animals, food and animal products from RUSSIA will cease completely, since they cannot be imported through Vaalimaa, the only border point on the eastern border,” the agency said in a statement.

Due to the closure of the Vaalimaa border control point, the transit of goods of animal origin is also impossible. “Border control of shipments traveling through Vaalimaa is not carried out at the Vuosaari port border checkpoint while the eastern border is closed. Consignments of animal origin cannot be exported through northern checkpoints,” the agency added.

It is noted that the food agency will inform about possible further changes.
