Petersburg: "Public Control" rejected 10 cans of stew out of 11

By order of the St. Petersburg consumer organization "Public Control", specialists from accredited laboratories examined the contents of 11 cans of stewed beef and pork from different manufacturers and only in one case confirmed its compliance with GOST. 

The pork stew of CJSC “Yoshkar-Ola meat-packing plant” (Mari El) turned out to be fully compliant with the requirements. The rest of the samples were described by experts as low quality products, noting that the results are almost no different from the testing in 2018. So, let's focus directly on the brands and the identified shortcomings.

Stewed beef from LLC "Kurgan MEAT Processing Plant "Standard"". The meat is too chopped (pieces do not reach 30 grams in weight) and undercooked. In canned food, there is a lack of protein, the proportions of muscle tissue and fat are violated. The composition contained gum, not declared when labeling. 

Stewed beef from Skopinsky Meat Processing Plant LLC. There is little protein and meat in canned food. The composition contains carrageenan, which does not meet GOST.

Stewed beef from OOO MCC Baltiyskiy. Again carrageenan (see above).

Stewed pork from Kamensky Pishchekombinat LLC. No pieces of meat were found in the jar. Canned foods are low in protein and high in fat. The composition contains carrageenan and gum.

Braised pork from ZAO Lytkarinsky MPZ. Excess fat and a clear lack of meat (respectively, the proportion of protein is reduced). The composition contains carrageenan and vegetable fiber. 

Stewed beef from LLC Production Company Rus, purchased at Magnit. No pieces of meat were found. The stew is bitter. it has little protein, the proportion of fat is slightly higher than normal. Contains gum and carrageenan.

Stewed beef from LLC Production Company Rus, purchased at Verny. The contents of the jar are low in meat and protein. The manufacturer used tissues from the heads of cattle. Chopped beef from MPK Potanino LLC. Fragments of the skin and large blood vessels of cattle were found in canned food. Little protein and meat, a lot of fat. Contains carrageenan. This product is produced according to a different GOST with less stringent requirements.

First-class beef stew "Made in the USSR" from Meat Processing Plant "Salyut" LLC is made not from pieces of meat, but from minced meat with a low protein content. The composition contains vegetable protein and gum. Braised pork of the first grade "Made in the USSR" from the same manufacturer contains vegetable protein and gum.
