In Dagestan, the movement of sheep from summer mountain pastures to winter lowland pastures continues.

More than ten thousand shepherds are involved in this labor-intensive and responsible campaign every year. The progress of the translocation is monitored by employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan, the Republican Department of Transhumance and specialists from the Veterinary Committee of the Republic of Dagestan.

For the upcoming winter, 1.5 million sheep and goats, 200 thousand heads of cattle and more than 3.1 thousand horses belonging to agricultural organizations, peasant farms and private household plots in mountain and foothill areas are expected to be placed on the republic's distant pastures.

According to operational data as of October 16, 376 thousand heads of small cattle (including 109 thousand transported by road), more than 9.5 thousand heads of cattle and about 2 thousand horses arrived at winter livestock housing sites.

According to the Republican Department of Transhumance, the weather conditions are still favorable and there are no acute problems during transhumance. All routes of cattle drives are assigned to management employees who accompany the livestock and, if necessary, provide assistance to shepherds together with representatives of local authorities

At livestock wintering areas, work continues to insulate livestock buildings, as well as to prepare stocks of coarse and concentrated feed for livestock.

Let us recall that the total length of all cattle routes in the Republic of Dagestan is 2830 km, and their area together with cattle sites reaches 148 thousand hectares.

Livestock tracks within the republic are laid along 53 routes and pass through the territory of 39 districts and 2 cities.
