New veterinary regulations for transporting pigs will come into force in September 2025

According to the new regulations, pigs must be transported in closed vehicles with fresh ventilation. The floors in such vehicles must be level, without cracks or damage, waterproof and able to support the weight of the animals. Transportation must be carried out in such a way as to avoid waste spillage and accidental opening of the body. If the journey lasts more than 6 hours, drivers must provide containers for storing bedding, water and feed.

it is prohibited to transport pigs in vehicles previously used to transport toxic substances without prior treatment. When transporting pigs of different sexes or with a weight difference of more than 20 kg, the vehicles must be separated by partitions. It is also necessary to have veterinary accompanying documents.

For transportation of feed, it is necessary to use vehicles that can maintain the required temperature conditions, if specified by the manufacturers. It is prohibited to transport feed together with pigs, except for individual cases specified in the rules.
