Macau reports new human case of H5N6 avian influenza in Hunan province

 The Macau HEALTH Bureau (SSM) released a statement saying that a case of H5N6 avian influenza has been identified in a 60-year-old patient in Hunan, CHINA .

The statement said the virus was found in a 60-year-old female farmer who lives in Changde, a city in northern Hunan. Symptoms of the disease began to appear on October 3, and on October 13 she was hospitalized. She is still in critical condition. Health authorities believe she contracted bird flu after coming into contact with a dead bird.

Chinese health authorities are urging the public to follow biosecurity protocols and avoid contact with bird droppings and dead birds.
