On Thursday, July 28, an emergency meeting of the anti-epizootic commission was held in the regional administration. 15 cases of African swine fever have been reported in nine districts.
The virus is taking over new territories. The number of animals subject to depopulation runs into the thousands. Yesterday, another outbreak was discovered in the Kostroma region: a sick wild boar was shot dead in the vicinity of the village of Medenikovo. Within a radius of 20 kilometers, where quarantine restrictions have been introduced, there are settlements of the Kostroma, Krasnoselsky and Sudislavsky districts.
More than 2.5 million rubles will be additionally allocated from the reserve fund of the regional administration to combat the spread of ASF. This decision was made by the Governor Sergei Sitnikov.
The Shuvalovo pig-breeding complex informed the veterinary services about the death of animals at one of the three isolated sites of the company. Access to the object is closed. Quarantine posts and disinfection barriers have been installed at the entrance to Shuvalovo village. Nearby meadows, fields and woodlands are examined for the presence of dead wild boar carcasses and traces of migrating herds.
At two sites, veterinarians took samples from animals for testing for the ASF virus genome. Samples of feed and drinking water were sent for examination.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shuvalovo JSC Vladimir Komin said that all the company's sites are protected in accordance with veterinary legislation. He described internal requirements for keeping pigs and sanitary standards as more stringent than those officially adopted in the industry, he added, but even tough biosecurity measures often do not help - such is the specificity of the spread of zoonosis.
