The EXPORT of chicken MEAT from the Philippines to SOUTH KOREA is now allowed after a year and a half of a ban, after the two sides agreed to resume trade. In March 2020, South Korea imposed a ban on the import of chicken and poultry from the Philippines due to an outbreak of H5 avian influenza in the country. In a memorandum addressed to Agriculture Minister William Dara, Korea's agricultural attaché, Maria Alilia Magirang, said the country has received final approval from the Korean government to lift the temporary ban on imports of chicken and poultry from the Philippines.
“We are pleased to announce that the Philippines is already able to export poultry products to South Korea. The PAO (Philippines Agriculture Authority) in Seoul coordinated closely with the Bureau of Animal Production (BAI) and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA) to respond promptly and submit requests to lift the temporary suspension of supply in a timely manner,” said Ms. Magirang.
Thus, South Korea will resume imports of poultry products from the Philippines in the near future, namely, chilled or frozen poultry meat, bones, fat, skin and tendons obtained from chicken, the Philstar newspaper reported.
At present, the Philippines has increased its imports of poultry meat from the EU, the US and other countries in order to stabilize domestic prices. According to a USDA report, 330,000 tons of poultry meat will enter the Philippine market this year.
