Tim Jackson, MLA analyst, said: "China was the single largest market, with lamb exports up 30 per cent to 67,763 tonnes and ovine exports up 70 per cent to 97,481 tonnes over the year.  CHINA accounted for just over half of the additional ovine exports over the year, with an overall ovine market share of 31 per cent."

Outside China, the largest growth was seen in exports to the Middle East and North Africa.

"After a relatively mild 2022, lamb exports to the region rose 63 percent to 95,889 tonnes," he said.
