US broiler exports to the Philippines, Congo (Brazzaville), Gambia, Mauritania, Benin and Guinea reached record highs in volume and value in 2022, while exports to CHINA and Taiwan set value records. In addition, Angola, Georgia, Viet Nam, Gabon, Singapore, CANADA, Turkmenistan, Iraq and Chile posted huge increases in broiler imports compared to the previous year. Broiler exports in 2022 were 3,792,380 metric tons, up 4.6% from 2021, and the EXPORT value reached $5.218 billion, up 17.0%.
Turkey exports in 2022 were 184,837 metric tons, down 25.6 percent from 2021, with an export value of $641.6 million, down 3.6 percent. The decline in exports is mainly due to the discovery of HPAI in important turkey-producing states such as Minnesota, Indiana and North Carolina. By the end of December 2022, over 9.44 million commercial birds have been affected. And U.S. turkey production in 2022 was 2.351 million metric tons, down 6.1 percent from the previous year.
Total exports of eggs (table eggs plus egg products in shell terms) decreased by 52.0 percent in 2022 to 160.8 million dozen. The value of these exports fell by 14.4 percent to $266.5 million.
