In the first six months of the year, almost 950,000 tons of halal poultry products were exported from Brazil to the Arab countries. In terms of value, shipments to the Middle East are worth $1.3 billion, according to data released by the Brazilian Animal Protein Producers Association (ABPA). The main importers were: Saudi Arabia, 396,365 tons; UAE 239,826 tons; Yemen 85,130 tons, Kuwait 73,050 tons and Libya 64,918 tons.
The total volume of halal poultry exported by Brazil accounts for an average of 40% of Brazilian poultry MEAT exports. “The world needs quality protein. it is important to maintain our resilience and continue to maintain strict sanitation controls while looking for and expanding business opportunities. Our goal is to supply a variety of halal meats, including halal sheep and goats, bringing more halal meat options to Muslims around the world. We have a demanding EXPORT market and some Brazilian meatpacking plants are targeting the Middle East,” explains Omar Shaheen, international relations manager for Cdial Halal (Brazil's halal certification agency).
