The region's Minister of Agriculture , Alan Kusraev, said that the livestock industry continues to increase production volumes and the number of animals. Currently, there are 127 organizations operating in the beef cattle sub-sector.
Over the past year, North Ossetia increased cattle production by 5%, reaching 7.2 thousand tons in live weight. MILK production also increased by 3% and amounted to 39.65 thousand tons compared to the results of the previous year.
Sheep farming is also actively developing in the region, where 68 organizations operate. The volume of production of sheep and goats for slaughter in live weight amounted to 2.4 thousand tons, which means an increase of 7.1%. The poultry industry showed a result of 6.5 thousand tons of production for slaughter in live weight, which is an increase of 8.4%. Egg production also increased significantly, by 23.9% to 21.2 million.
The minister noted that fish farming is also developing in North Ossetia. Last year, 6.1 thousand tons of marketable fish were produced. There are 62 enterprises operating in the industry. However, fish farming enterprises in the region are faced with the problem of a shortage of planting material. To solve this problem, a selection and breeding center in the field of aquaculture is being built in the republic.
